Advice

If I was hired by Baruch College to improve the college with the use of new media I would do various things. One of them would be to provide a platform in which students can have discussions despite what they are majoring in. As a student at Baruch, it is rare that you interact with others due to it being a commuter school. It is the same case when you are in different schools, as I never interact with students from Weissman as a Zicklin student, unless I take a liberal arts elective.

Another suggestion would be to use social media to speak on the achievements of Baruch alumni. Creating a page in which alumni can share their experiences and how Baruch has helped them will aid undergraduates and graduates after graduating. It is often the case where undergraduates like me are first-generation graduates and we have no guidance on what to do after graduation. Being able to interact with Baruch alumni will help Baruch students get a perspective and make it their own.

Last but not least, my last suggestion would be to host online tour guides, where new students can learn about the environment. In addition, new students will be able to interact with current undergraduates to learn little things such as where to get food and at what time they should go. When I was a freshman at Baruch, it was hard to get lunch before classes since everyone seemed to be on lunch at the same time. These tour guides will also show new students around the neighborhood, and not just the inside of the school. Using this, the new students will be able to gain a better understanding of Baruch as a whole.

  1. Hi Rachel,
I like all your suggestions, and I can see how I can relate to them. As you mentioned, I am just like you, a first-generation graduate. And having the platform where I can find our alumni's experiences and pieces of advice would be a great help, especially at difficult times like now.
