Social Networking
Social networking has become an important tool to use for both corporations and people in general. Social networking is the way in which people are able to promote their brand to a mass amount of people. Promoting on these platforms has become more popular due to the impact it has. For instance, we see many brands sponsoring influencers’ content in exchange for them to promote their product.
These technologies can be used in a way of promoting a brand. For instance, many small business owners use social networking to reach more people than they would if they were to promote their brand on a newspaper. However, these technologies can able be used for finding a job. Recruiters use platforms such as LinkedIn to find someone who is fit for their company, as well as job seekers looking for jobs that are a great fit for them. In “Social Networking Technology Boosts Job Recruiting”, Langfitt depicts the nature of job recruiting through social networking. LinkedIn makes it easy for job seekers to promote themselves, especially since most times you can connect directly to the job recruiter. Job hunters can also easily market themselves by crafting their profile a certain way to be able to attract recruiters. Langfitt also shows how a recruiter reached out to a job seeker and it turned out to a positive conversation, in which eventually they became an employee of that company.
The benefits of these technologies to society is that it serves as a place to find relationships (personal and business), build communities, and promote awareness. Awareness is one of the best benefits that I believe comes from these technologies because it educates users on what is going on in the world without having to watch the news. Being able to build business relationships is also beneficial to society because it helps business owners connect with each other. We see this in “How to Build a Community on Social Media”, where CEO Dave Klonke explains how he uses social media to build relationships with bigger businesses. In doing so, he is able to get a lot of “referral business”. Klonke also using social media to drive attention to his website.
While social networking is mostly positive, it can also be negative. Social networking has a “dark side”, where gossip, cyberbullying, invasion of privacy, scamming, and even hacking happens. In addition to this, social media becomes unhealthy to people when they are caught up using it all day. In “Antisocial Networking?”, Stout describes the situation in which children today are not experiencing what it is like to have a childhood friend. Without these experiences, it can be difficult for them to understand and develop empathy, since they will be accustomed to having friends online only and not be able to see their emotion.
With these positives and negatives in mind, I believe these technologies will evolve in the future. The ways in which it could evolve in is by creating a better protection of privacy, making it more difficult for hackers to steal information. These technologies could also evolve in a way that would make it easy to identify scammers, and immediately report and delete their accounts. Once the scammer is identified, they are prohibited from ever making an account again with the same IP address.
