Blog About Twitter
Twitter is a social media platform in which you are able to interact with the world in just one tweet. Twitter discussions, BlackBoard discussions, and in-class discussions may have similarities, but for the most part they are very much different.
Being that Twitter is used worldwide, discussions may not always be educational. Users can have a discussion about almost anything, such as what outfit is best. Twitter discussions are also limited due to tweets only being able to be 280 characters. If one wants to have a long discussion, they would have to create a thread in which consists of many tweets. Twitter discussions are also not always backed by facts, in the sense that no one provides references as to where they got their information.
On the other hand, BlackBoard discussions are always educational based. On BlackBoard, you have the liberty to make your post as long as you want. BlackBoard also encourages users to cite references and/or provide links in order to back up their information. In doing so, it persuades users to do more research on a topic. Being that citing references is encouraged, it is more likely for discussions to be educational, rather than random topics such as how is the weather.
In-class discussions are more natural than Twitter discussions and BlackBoard discussions. I find in-class discussions more natural because discussions are based on the person's knowledge of the subject. They are also more natural because it creates an engaging dialogue between people. This type of engaging dialogue is better than Twitter discussions and BlackBoard discussions because people pay more attention to what the other person is saying. The only downside for in-class discussions is that no one can really fact check what a person is saying. Not being able to research a topic at the moment is bittersweet, because you get people's natural reaction to a situation but you are also not able to confirm if what they are saying is true.
Overall, I prefer Twitter discussions because it is easier to have a discussion. I can tweet something instantly and speak to many people from all around the world. I can also learn more from others, while also being that person to help enlighten others.
