 A new form of new media would be the ability to watch 4k movies at home. With this, you will be able to experience the movement from the movie. The movie will also be able to be seen from the virtual reality headset to be able to experience the movie as a whole. I believe this will be created eventually in the future being that it already exists in movie theaters. Now with the COVID-19 pandemic, many technologies have been advanced enough to facilitate life at home. 

 File sharing is the exchanging of digital media, such as attaching a Word document to an e-mail. File sharing through digital means has become easy today. Applications such as Google Drive and Dropbox allow you to share your files with multiple people at a time. Google Drive is a popular application for file sharing because not only can multiple people see it at the same time, they can also edit it.  P2P file sharing is the uploading of files that are not intended to be shared. Some examples of P2P file  sharing are LimeWire, KaZaa, eMule, Vuze, uTorrent, and BitTorrent. P2P file sharing is mostly used to access files that are not allowed to be on public file sharing services. Most times, the files that are shared on P2P are considered illegal. For instance, on LimeWire there is a lot of music uploaded that can also be downloaded.  To contribute to our class wiki, I have been helping the YouTube Wiki. While it is a decent Wiki, it has been a little outdated in which many information is from 2013. Not only have I been updating information, but I have also added new information such as influencer marketing.  Along with this, I have been fixing  grammatical errors, as well as deleting information that I deemed no longer important. With adding this information, I hope to make the Wiki the most updated as it possibly can.  I have edited the Twitch page, in which I added details about Ninja. I am primarily focused on the page on YouTube, as it is a topic in which I am passionate about. So far I have added information on who are the most popular YouTubers and influencer marketing. While I will be expanding on influencer marketing, I will also like to add more YouTubers who are popular today. I will be adding more information on the "beauty world" that exists on YouTube.

There are many issues that concern those who use new media regarding privacy and confidentiality, such as the dark web, cat fishing, data breaches, and much more. The dark web is one issue that concerns many users of new media. The dark web is used by anonymous users and in which they use special technology. It is often hard to trace anyone from the dark web, making it a scary place in new media. The reason for concern regarding the dark web is that hackers can upload your card information, post your address, or even be a host for human trafficking.   If I was hired by Baruch College to improve the college with the use of new media I would do various things. One of them would be to provide a platform in which students can have discussions despite what they are majoring in. As a student at Baruch, it is rare that you interact with others due to it being a commuter school. It is the same case when you are in different schools, as I never interact with students from Weissman as a Zicklin student, unless I take a liberal arts elective. Another suggestion would be to use social media to speak on the achievements of Baruch alumni. Creating a page in which alumni can share their experiences and how Baruch has helped them will aid undergraduates and graduates after graduating. It is often the case where undergraduates like me are first-generation graduates and we have no guidance on what to do after graduation. Creativity can be expressed in many ways. It can be expressed through drawing, photography, music, and more. Today, new media has helped people share their creativity with others, as well inspiring others to become creative.  With new media, people are encouraged to share their work with others. Not only will it help them gain exposure to companies, but they can gain a profit on their own if they gain a following. We see this with make up influencers today, who create YouTube videos depicting different techniques of applying makeup. Photographers also get exposure to companies through new media. Alissa Ashley , a YouTuber, has been able to get opportunities with companies such as Fenty Beauty due to her photography skills that she has depicted on her YouTube channel as well as her Instagram photography account.  As an avid food lover, I love trying new restaurants, cafes, etc. I would always post pictures of my food on my personal Instagram account so that I could share these new discoveries with my followers. However, these posts would only last 24 hours on my Instagram story.  My friends eventually convinced me to make an Instagram food page being that I loved both eating and sharing the new places I had found. I also found inspiration from other food pages I had followed and appreciated the way in which they took pictures of food that made it look so appetizing. I created my food page on February 20, 2019. I posted consistently and made sure my pictures were making the food look appetizing.      There are a myriad of ways that virtual worlds can be used. For instance, it can be used for virtual museum tours. Virtual worlds are being used a lot as of recently due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Activities such as the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade will be virtual to avoid crowds of people from gathering. Even schools are using virtual worlds to practice social distancing and teach from home. There are also virtual social worlds, where you can create your own world and interact with others. An example of a virtual social world is The Sims.       In the virtual world, there are pros and cons. Beginning with pros, the virtual world provides gaming experiences such as the PlayStation VR. With the PlayStation VR, one can feel as if they are in the game itself, feel like they are in a theater when watching a movie, and much more. Social Networking sites can be different from one platform to another. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn are all platforms that I use, but the experiences on each platform are unique. While I may use each platform, each one serves it's own purpose to me.  Beginning with Facebook, I see it as a way to socialize with family members, high school classmates/teachers and current classmates. While I have not posted on Facebook since 2017, I often log in to see Baruch College Class of 2020's page so that I can see what classes my current classmates are taking. Most times, they are either selling textbooks, or asking opinions about how to be successful in a class. I find this very helpful as it helps me get an overview for a class I may be taking, or even helps me find an elective I would have never known about. Twitter is a social media platform in which you are able to interact with the world in just one tweet. Twitter discussions, BlackBoard discussions, and in-class discussions may have similarities, but for the most part they are very much different.  Being that Twitter is used worldwide, discussions may not always be educational. Users can have a discussion about almost anything, such as what outfit is best. Twitter discussions are also limited due to tweets only being able to be 280 characters. If one wants to have a long discussion, they would have to create a thread in which consists of many tweets. Twitter discussions are also not always backed by facts, in the sense that no one provides references as to where they got their information.  On the other hand, BlackBoard discussions are always educational based. Social networking has become an important tool to use for both corporations and people in general. Social networking is the way in which people are able to promote their brand to a mass amount of people. Promoting on these platforms has become more popular due to the impact it has. For instance, we see many brands sponsoring influencers’ content in exchange for them to promote their product.   These technologies can be used in a way of promoting a brand. For instance, many small business owners use social networking to reach more people than they would if they were to promote their brand on a newspaper. However, these technologies can able be used for finding a job. When speaking on the topic of blogs v. wiki, I believe there are differences as well as similarities. Blogs are written from a person’s perspective. A blog usually consists of a person’s own views and opinions. The blogger can also post as many times as they prefer. On the other hand, wikipedias are more fact-based, and do not leave much room for a person’s opinion. Wiki is more of a group collaboration, where everyone can input information they find. Information posted on wiki has to be backed up by a source, otherwise it can be seen as inaccurate.   However, when comparing both, people can have a discussion on both blogs and wiki. There is an exchange of views, where one can provide insight on each other’s work. There is an importance of convergence in today’s networked world because sharing ideas leads to more knowledge. I have chosen to do my project on YouTube and its' platform. YouTube is a platform that many people use today as a means of financial gain. But how does one get the money? Is there more to it than just simply getting a deposit into their bank account? One of the things I will be discussing is how influencers involuntarily get into a third-party contract with YouTube.  I will also be discussing how most influencers are essentially marketers, being that they help businesses promote their products. This way of promoting products depicts how new media uses “influencers” as a means of advertisement. It can be debated that this form of advertisement works better than billboards on a driveway. I plan to explain in detail how influencers are not the only ones benefitting from YouTube, but companies as well.
